Open All year Woodend cottage, just 3 miles from Loch Ness at a height of 1000 feet above sea level is a traditional stone built Detached Scottish croft house, situated high in the hills above Loch Ness on a croft which once was home to the author Katherine Stewart, and was the subject of her book, 'A croft in the hills'.

Self catering holidays here are lovely at any time of the year, and Woodend cottage makes an ideal family accommodation. Nestled amongst a small group of trees, making it cosy even in mid winter and a sun trap during the summer.

The cottage is modernised to a high standard. Oil fired central heating and an open fire in the lounge will guarantee your comfort even when the snow is deep and crisp outside! For those of you that long for snow, Christmas and Hogmanay is often “white” at this altitude. Private and secluded and well off the beaten track, you will feel close to nature even though you are just 20 minutes from the Highland capital city of Inverness.

Woodend holiday cottage lies within a triangle of land between Inverness, Beauly and Drumnadrochit (all are a 20 minute drive away) The rugged beauty of the Strathfarrar and Glen Affric mountains is just a little further, a must to visit during your holiday. It is a glorious 10 mile walk around Loch Affric if you feel fit enough! (all fairly level) Woodend is an ideal base for walkers (bring boots), or cyclists (the Great Glen walking and cycling route passes close by), or for fishing on nearby Loch Lait, just a short walk across the Croft's moorland.

Sail on Loch Ness, intoxicated by the Highland air, enhanced possibly with a medicinal “wee dram” of Scottish liquid gold. Honeymoon under starry skies, and during the winter under the spectacular dancing Northern Lights which are often visible at this time of year and particularly good at this altitude. You can visit Skye, Fort William, Ullapool, John O'Groats etc, easily in one day but the betting is you won't wander far.
