A converted byre on the Croft formerly owned by the Author Katharine Stewart, Identified in her book "A Croft in the Hills"

Situated high above Loch Ness , Tuath Cala (Gaelic for North Haven) was an old Byre with three walls and a tin roof; it was home to swallows and wagtails in the summer and shelter for sheep in the winter. After the last swallows left in the autumn of 1997 , the Byre was painstakingly transformed into a truly delightful stone cottage, which is lovely to stay in all seasons of the year. Just 3 miles north of Loch Ness at as height of 1000 ft above sea level, the Croft lies within a triangle of countryside between Inverness, Beauly, and Drumnadrochit. (All are 20 minutes drive away).

There are extensive views across miles of undulating farmland, and wide open skies to the rugged beauty of the Strathfarrar, Glen Affric mountains and Ben Wyvis to the north.

A cozy and secluded, tranquil haven from the outside world, it is ideal for those wishing to walk (bring boots), or cycle (the Great Glen walking and cycling route passes close by), to fly fish on Loch Lait (within walking distance from the crofts moorland), sail on Loch Ness, or go pony trekking nearby, to read or write, watch wildlife (bring binoculars), honeymoon under starry skies (and if lucky see the Aurora Borealis).

Within one days excursion you can visit Skye, Fort William, Ullapool, John O' Groats, Grantown on Spey, Monarch of the Glen country or Kingussie Wildlife park, but the betting is you won't wander far. The swallows and wagtails returned in the spring of '98 and built their nests in the new roof. There are sandy beaches within 30 minutes drive and the Moray Firth Dolphins may be seen from the beach. Dolphin boat trips go from Inverness and Cromarty. The city of Inverness is only 7 miles away, with good restaurants, theatre, cinema, aquadome etc., Yet at ABRIACHAN you are in another world
